Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Large bowl
  • Fork
  • Biscuit Cutter or Knife

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour This is key! Self-rising flour contains baking powder and salt, making this recipe even simpler. Don't substitute all-purpose flour unless you add your own leavening agents.
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream For that extra richness and flakiness. Don't use milk – the higher fat content of the cream is essential for tender biscuits.

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper – this prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and heavy cream. I like to use a fork to gently stir until a soft, shaggy dough forms. Don't overmix; a few lumps are okay!
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a ¾-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or a sharp knife to cut out 8-10 biscuits. If you don't have a cutter, a glass works perfectly!
  • Place the biscuits onto your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they're golden brown and puffed up. Keep an eye on them, ovens vary!
  • Serve these warm, straight from the oven! They’re delicious on their own, or with butter, jam, honey, or even gravy.

Notes

While this recipe is beautifully simple, you can always add your own creative touch! Feel free to sprinkle a little coarse sugar on top before baking for a hint of sweetness, or add some finely grated cheese into the dough for a savory twist. Experiment and have fun!
