Teriyaki Parmesan Burgers

Ingredients
  

For the Burgers

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 2 tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, teriyaki sauce, grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Step 2: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and gently shape each into a patty about ½ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty.
  • Step 3: Heat your grill or a sturdy skillet over medium-high heat. Place patties on the hot surface and cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for medium-well.
  • Step 4: While the burgers cook or immediately after removing them, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in the skillet for 1–2 minutes.
  • Step 5: Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Add desired toppings. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

To avoid tough burgers, don't overmix the meat. Make a slight indentation in the center of patties to help them cook evenly. Use a hot surface for a good sear and resist pressing down on the patties while cooking. Resting burgers for a minute or two after cooking can help juices redistribute. Cooked patties can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days. The patty mixture can be prepped up to 24 hours ahead and stored, covered, in the fridge before shaping and cooking.
