  • Candy thermometer
  • Parchment-lined baking sheet

Ingredients

For the Candy Apples

  • 6 medium-sized apples Choose your favorite variety
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional

  • 1 cup crushed shortcake cookies For flavoring
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped

For Topping

  • whipped cream

Instructions

  • Step 1: Wash and dry your apples thoroughly. Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
  • Step 2: In a saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Step 3: Once the sugar is dissolved, increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Monitor the temperature until it reaches 300°F, also known as the hard crack stage.
  • Step 4: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring, if desired.
  • Step 5: Dip each apple into the candy mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Let excess candy drip off before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Step 6: While the candy is still warm, sprinkle the crushed shortcake cookies over the coated apples.
  • Step 7: Once the candy has set, top each apple with chopped strawberries and a generous dollop of whipped cream.
  • Step 8: Serve immediately and enjoy every bite!

Notes

These candy apples are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
