  • Separate bowl

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup water room temperature
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • food coloring various colors such as red, blue, yellow, green, purple
  • a small pinch fine glitter silver, holographic, or iridescent
  • 1 tablet Alka-Seltzer broken into small pieces

Instructions

  • Step 1: Fill the jar with ¾ cup of room temperature water. Pour gently to avoid splashing or bubbles.

  • Step 4: Slowly pour the colored oil mixture into the jar of water, pouring against the side to keep layers separate. The oil will float on top.
  • Step 5: Break the Alka-Seltzer tablet into small pieces.
  • Step 6: Drop one piece of Alka-Seltzer at a time into the jar and watch bubbles carry colored oil droplets down, creating a fireworks effect.
  • Step 7: Wait for the liquid to settle before adding more pieces to extend the effect and enjoy the colorful sparkling display.

Notes

This project is quick and easy, perfect for kids with adult supervision. Use a tall clear jar for best effect. Store the jar tightly sealed at room temperature and shake gently before use. Try substitutions like baby oil or neon food coloring for different effects. Always check for leaks before gifting.
