Equipment

  • Large Pitcher
  • Goldfish Bowl or large clear punch bowl, clear glass trifle dish
  • Ladle
  • Glasses
  • Plastic Fish Tank Plant optional

Ingredients

For the Punch Mix

  • 5 oz Vodka your favorite brand
  • 5 oz Malibu Rum
  • 3 oz Blue Curaçao
  • 6 oz Sweet-and-Sour Mix store-bought or homemade
  • 16 oz Pineapple Juice chilled

For Assembly & Garnish

  • 0.5 Gallon Goldfish Bowl or large clear punch bowl or trifle dish
  • 0.5 cup Rainbow Nerds Candy or similar gravel-like candy
  • Plastic Fish Tank Plant optional
  • Ice Cubes essential for chilling
  • 16 oz Sprite or lemon-lime soda, club soda, added just before serving
  • 4 Swedish Fish or Gummy Sharks for the bowl
  • Lime Slices for the bowl
  • 1 Swedish Fish or Gummy Shark per glass, for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Punch Mix: In your largest pitcher or an empty gallon jug, combine vodka, Malibu rum, blue Curaçao, sweet-and-sour mix, and pineapple juice. Stir thoroughly until all flavors are well-mingled. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight for best results; the colder it is, the more refreshing.
  • Step 2: Set Up the "Tank": When ready to serve, sprinkle the Rainbow Nerds candy evenly across the bottom of your goldfish bowl to create a vibrant "gravel" bed. If using a plastic fish tank plant, nestle it in among the "gravel" for an immersive effect.
  • Step 3: Assemble the Punch: Fill the prepared bowl generously with ice cubes. Carefully pour in your chilled punch mix. Gently drop in the 4 Swedish Fish or gummy sharks to "swim" around. Finally, float the lime slices on top of the punch.
  • Step 4: Serve: Ladle the punch into individual glasses. For an extra touch of fun, garnish each glass with one Swedish Fish or gummy shark. Alternatively, set up a self-serve station for guests.

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: To make it kid-friendly or a mocktail, skip the vodka and Malibu. Use a combination of blue sports drink (like Gatorade Frost) or blue food coloring with clear soda and pineapple juice. For different spirits, try white tequila for a "Margarita Tank" or gin for a botanical twist. Add frozen pineapple chunks, sliced oranges, or maraschino cherries for extra color and flavor; frozen fruit also helps keep the punch cold without watering it down. Instead of Swedish Fish, try gummy worms, gummy octopuses, or edible glitter for a shimmering effect! A few sprigs of fresh mint or rosemary can add an unexpected aromatic layer. If you want more fizz, swap out some of the pineapple juice for sparkling water or ginger ale.
Tips for Success: Chill everything thoroughly before assembly. Add ice to the bowl just before serving to prevent excessive dilution; consider making ice cubes from pineapple juice or blue sports drink. The punch mix (vodka, rum, blue Curaçao, sweet-and-sour mix, pineapple juice) can be made a day or two in advance and stored in the fridge. Assemble the "tank" and add ice, Sprite, and garnishes right before the party starts. If hosting a larger crowd, consider having a second pre-chilled batch ready.
Storage: Transfer any leftover punch (without the ice or garnishes) into an airtight container or clean bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. The flavor might mellow slightly, and fizziness will fade, but it will still be enjoyable. Just add fresh Sprite and garnishes when serving again.
