Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Equipment

  • Food processor
  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Medium saucepan

Ingredients

  • 3 cups mini pretzels coarsely crushed
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips melted
  • sea salt flakes optional

Instructions

  • Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  • Spread the crushed pretzels evenly in the prepared pan. Press them down gently to create a firm base.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened (this should take about 3-5 minutes).
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the pretzels and spread it evenly.
  • Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread evenly. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes, if desired.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the bars are completely firm.
  • Once firm, lift the bars from the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Feel free to get creative! Instead of pretzels, try using crushed graham crackers or even crushed biscoff cookies. For a richer caramel flavor, use salted caramel sauce. Add chopped nuts, like pecans or peanuts, for extra crunch. White chocolate instead of semi-sweet would be delicious too!
