Equipment

  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Large bowl
  • 9x13 inch dish
  • Food processor optional, for crushing Oreos
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Oreo crumbs pre-crushed or crushed classic Oreos (cream filling removed if crushing your own)
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened, at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar also known as confectioners' sugar
  • 16 oz thawed whipped topping divided (e.g., Cool Whip), keep chilled until use but thawed
  • 5.9 oz instant chocolate pudding mix any brand, instant is key
  • 3 cups cold milk whole milk or 2% milk recommended for richness
  • 1 cup chopped pecans divided, can be lightly toasted
  • 0.5 cup caramel sauce your favorite store-bought sauce
  • 0.25 cup chocolate syrup

Instructions

  • Step 1: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the Oreo crumbs with the melted butter. Stir them together really well until all the crumbs are moistened and look like wet sand. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish to form the crust.
  • Step 2: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until it’s wonderfully smooth and creamy. Ensure there are no lumps.
  • Step 3: Gently fold in half of your thawed whipped topping and half of the chopped pecans into the cream cheese mixture, being gentle to maintain a light, airy texture.
  • Step 4: Carefully spread this luscious cream cheese mixture evenly over your Oreo crust.
  • Step 5: In a separate bowl, whisk your instant chocolate pudding mix with the cold milk for about 2 minutes, or until it thickens up beautifully.
  • Step 6: Gently fold the remaining whipped topping into your thickened pudding mixture. This step makes the pudding layer extra light and fluffy.
  • Step 7: Spread this glorious pudding layer evenly over your cream cheese layer.
  • Step 8: Drizzle the caramel sauce and chocolate syrup all over the pudding layer.
  • Step 9: Sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans on top.
  • Step 10: Pop your beautiful Turtle Lush into the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow all those delicious layers to set up properly and the flavors to meld together perfectly.
  • Step 11: Slice, serve chilled, and watch those happy faces appear!

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: Crust variations include graham cracker, shortbread, or crushed chocolate chip cookies. For nuts, walnuts or toasted almonds can replace pecans; omit for allergies or use toffee bits. Experiment with instant pudding flavors like vanilla, butterscotch, or cheesecake. Enhance indulgence with a pinch of flaky sea salt over the caramel or add mini chocolate chips or crushed toffee bits to the top layer.
Tips for Success: Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for a smooth mixture. Do not rush chilling; at least 4 hours (or overnight) is essential for layers to set. Use gentle folding motions when incorporating whipped topping to maintain light, fluffy textures. Spread each layer evenly for best presentation and flavor distribution.
Storage: Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. While it can be frozen, the texture of whipped topping and cream cheese may change upon thawing, so enjoying it fresh is recommended.
