Taffy Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar The base of your taffy that gives it that sweet flavor.
  • 1 cup light corn syrup This helps to achieve that chewy texture.
  • 1/2 cup water To dissolve the sugar and create a smooth mixture.
  • 1 package Kool-Aid (any flavor) This is where the fun flavors come in! Choose your favorite.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt A pinch of salt enhances the sweetness.
  • Cooking spray To prevent sticking.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Start by preparing your workspace. Lightly grease a baking sheet or a large plate with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • Step 3: Once the mixture is bubbling, stop stirring and let it cook until it reaches the hard ball stage (about 250°F or 121°C). You can check this with a candy thermometer.
  • Step 4: Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully stir in the Kool-Aid and salt. Be cautious as the mixture will bubble up a bit!
  • Step 5: Pour the hot mixture onto your prepared surface and let it cool for a few minutes until it’s safe to touch.
  • Step 6: Once cool enough, grease your hands with cooking spray and start kneading the taffy. Knead it for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Step 7: Shape the taffy into small pieces or ropes, then wrap them in wax paper to keep them fresh.

Notes

To keep your taffy fresh, store it in an airtight container at room temperature. It should last for about 2 weeks, but I doubt it will stick around that long because everyone will want a piece!
