Equipment

  • Large roasting pan
  • Medium saucepan
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 10 cups mini pretzel twists one 16 oz bag; I prefer the mini twists for even coating
  • 1 cup light brown sugar lightly packed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • 0.25 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 bag Heath toffee bits You could also use other toffee bits or even chopped up chocolate bars!

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Lightly grease a large roasting pan. Add your pretzels to the pan. Spread them out in a single layer if possible, for even cooking.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Keep stirring for a full 5 minutes. Once it boils, remove it from the heat; whisk in the vanilla extract and baking soda.
  • Pour the delicious toffee mixture over the pretzels. Sprinkle with half of the Heath toffee bits. Using a spatula or your hands, gently toss everything to coat the pretzels evenly. Pop it into the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour at 200°F (93°C), stirring every 15 minutes. Once it's done, carefully spread the pretzels on wax paper to cool. Sprinkle with the remaining Heath toffee bits. Let it cool completely before breaking into clusters.

Notes

Feel free to experiment! Instead of Heath toffee bits, try using chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts would be amazing!), different types of chocolate chips, or even sea salt flakes for an extra salty kick. You can also use different types of pretzels – rods instead of twists, for example!
