DIY Lava Lamp

Ingredients
  

Ingredients

  • ¾ bottle vegetable or canola oil fill water bottle about 3/4 full
  • to fill water fill bottle almost full leaving about 2 inches of space at top
  • 4-5 drops food coloring choose colors for vibrant effect
  • 1/2 tablet antacid tablets break tablet in half and drop one half into bottle; add more if bubbling slows

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Prepare your workspace by laying down newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to catch any spills.
  • Step 2: Fill each clean water bottle about ¾ full with vegetable or canola oil.
  • Step 3: Slowly pour water into the bottle until it’s almost full, leaving about two inches of space at the top. The water will sink beneath the oil.
  • Step 4: Add 4 to 5 drops of your chosen food coloring.
  • Step 5: Break an antacid tablet in half and drop one half into the bottle to start the bubbling lava effect.
  • Step 6: If bubbling slows, add another half tablet to keep the bubbles flowing.

Notes

Store the lava lamp tightly sealed at room temperature and out of direct sunlight to maintain vibrant colors. If bubbles decrease, add a fresh half antacid tablet. Supervise kids when using antacid tablets and avoid ingestion of the mixture.
