Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Sturdy spoon or spatula
  • Plastic wrap or lid

Ingredients

  • 48 oz Red Bliss Potato Salad approximately 3 lbs, or your favorite good quality store-bought potato salad
  • 1 packet Ranch Seasoning Mix
  • 3/4 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese freshly shredded or pre-shredded
  • 4 slices Bacon cooked and crumbled, nice and crispy (reserve one-quarter for garnish)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Combine the Goodness. Grab a large mixing bowl. Scoop in your store-bought Red Bliss potato salad. Sprinkle the magical packet of ranch seasoning mix right over the top. Add ¾ cup of your shredded cheddar cheese and three-quarters of your cooked, crumbled bacon.
  • Step 2: Mix It Up. With a sturdy spoon or spatula, gently fold and mix all the ingredients together. Ensure the ranch seasoning is evenly distributed and that every potato, bit of cheese, and piece of bacon is incorporated. Mix thoroughly but avoid over-mashing the potatoes.
  • Step 3: Chill Out. Cover your bowl tightly with plastic wrap or a lid, and pop it into the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 30 minutes, but for best flavor development, an hour or two is recommended.
  • Step 4: The Grand Finale. Just before serving, pull your delicious potato salad out of the fridge. Sprinkle the remaining one-quarter of the crumbled bacon generously over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: Adapt this recipe by swapping cheddar for Monterey Jack, Colby, Mexican blend, or smoked gouda. Add fresh chives, green onions, or parsley for an herbaceous boost. For heat, try diced jalapeño (seeds removed) or a pinch of cayenne. Stir in shredded cooked chicken to make it a meal, or experiment with different bacon flavors like maple or turkey.
Tips for Success: Don't rush the chilling time—it's crucial for flavor development. Choose a store-bought potato salad base you genuinely enjoy. Ensure your bacon is perfectly crispy for a wonderful textural contrast. Always taste and adjust seasoning after chilling, adding a tiny splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch more ranch seasoning if needed.
Storage: Transfer any remaining salad to an airtight container and refrigerate. It will stay fresh and delicious for 3 to 4 days. Freezing is not recommended as the texture of the potatoes can change significantly after thawing.
