Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 small/medium apples Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Granny Smith, or Pink Lady recommended
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon divided
  • 1 tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Step 1: Core and slice apples into ½-inch thick pieces. (Peel is optional). In a bowl, toss apple slices with canola or vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon until evenly coated.
  • Step 2: Preheat air fryer to 380°F (190°C). Arrange seasoned apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Air fry for 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until apples are soft and tender.
  • Step 3: Transfer cooked apples to a clean bowl. Add melted butter, the remaining 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Serve immediately, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Customize by experimenting with apple varieties (Granny Smith, Fuji, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady) or adding other spices like nutmeg or allspice. Swap granulated sugar for brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey. Consider adding chopped nuts, dried fruit, or a caramel drizzle. For best results, use firm apples, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket, shake it halfway through cooking, and ensure consistent ½-inch slices. Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and can be reheated in the air fryer or microwave.
